Halloween

H a L l O w E e N

IS

COMING

I looked up on the internet "How did Halloween start" and found the following information:

* Halloween has its roots in the ancient, pre-Christian Celtic festival of Samhain, which WAS celebrated on the night of October 31st. The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, believed that the dead returned to earth on the Samhain.
* Halloween is the evening before the Christian holy days of All Hallows' Day (also known as All Saints' or Hallowmas) on 1 November and All Souls' Day on 2 November, thus giving the holiday on 31 October the full name of All Hallows' Eve (meaning the evening before All Hallows' Day.

* Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of Hallows' Even or Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in several countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observation of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed.

Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related guising and souling), attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-laterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divinatin games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stores, as well as watching horror films. …

The word Halloween or Hallowe'en dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin.  The word "Hallowe'en" means "Saints' evening". It comes from a Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve.

The above information barely scratches the surface of the wealth of information found on the internet.
AND, do not forget all the symbols representing Halloween:  jack-o'-laterns, witches, skeletons, ghosts, cobwebs, black cats and headstones to name a few.

Enjoy the 31st of October!

It's BEGINNING to look a lot like CHRISTMAS

I wanted to post these new Paper Pumpkin Alternative (from Stampin'Up!) cards right after I finished them, but life got in the way.  BUT, here they are.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them.

My best friend (and upline from Stampin'Up!) added gems to her card and I CASE'd her idea and added the moose.

Card Number 1 -- It's Beginning to look a lot like CHRISTMAS

I CASE'd (copy and save everything) the idea of adding rhinestones to help spruce up this card.  Everything used is from the October Paper Pumpkin Kit except for the colored rhinestones.  I found those in my stash to add some sparkle.

Card Number 2 -- Merry Moose

The moose from the Merry Moose Stamp Set (Stampin'Up!'s 2019 Holiday Catalog) has been calling to me ever since I saw him earlier this year.  I couldn't resist using him on one of these cards.  Everything you see is from Stampin'Up!  I used red rhinestones leftover from a year or so ago and added one yellow rhinestone (from my stash) at the top of the tree.  I just love this moose and can imagine he will be used on more than Christmas cards!

Card Number 3 -- Is that Santa?

I pulled out several of my retired Stampin'Up! stamp sets to complete this card.  Santa and his reindeer came from one stamp set, the deer came from another and the greeting is vintage Stampin'Up!  This greeting came with one of the first stamp sets I purchased from Stampin'Up! as a new Demonstrator (can you say over fifteen years ago).  It is classic and I go to it more than I realize. The gift packages are from the Merry Moose stamp set used above.

Enjoy your day and look forward to seeing you again soon!  Brenda

Alternate Cards/Projects for Stampin' Up!'s October Paper Pumpkin Kit

Alternate Christmas Card

My first thought was where is the wild life?  Soooo, I pulled out Nature's Beauty and stamped the deer, cut it out and added it to the card.  Viola! A whole new look.  Come back tomorrow to see what else I come up with.

Please remember everything used on this card is from Stampin'Up!

See you tomorrow!

Stampin' Up!'s October Paper Pumpkin

Paper Pumpkin
Cards for the upcoming Holiday Season

I received my October Paper Pumpkin Kit from Stampin' Up! and loved, loved it!  The kit contains a stamp set, a small Night of Navy stamp pad, glue dots and everything you need to make 10 cards.  Below are the two cards you can make with the kit.

The only difference is the greeting and placement of the cardinals.  In addition to making the cards/projects that Stampin' Up! provides the directions for, alternate cards/projects can be made.

Come back tomorrow to see my Alternate cards/projects.

Stampin' Up!'s September Paper Pumpkin Kit

PAPER PUMPKIN

Stampin' Up! offers a Paper Pumpkin kit each month. The kit costs $22/month and contains everything you need to make the project of the month.  For September is was small treat boxes that were absolutely adorable.  Unfortunately, I forgot to order my kit in time to have one delivered to me, but my sister received hers and loaned me the stamp set.

As you can guess, the kit was for Halloween.  The stamp set is really cute and contains two different skeleton images and sentiments.

I was browsing around on Pinterest looking for inspiration and found the following card.  I love to give recognition to the creator of the card, but I forgot to save the image and when I went back to get the creator's information I could not find the card again.  I want to thank the individual that created this card, I loved it and I hope you do to.

Everything used to create the card is from Stampin' Up!.

The card base is Basic Black card stock and measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", folded in half at 4-1/4".  The first layer is Whisper White card stock cut at 5-1/4" x 4". Basic Black card stock is used for the second layer and is cut at 5" x 3-3/4".  I took a half sheet of Pumpkin Pie card stock, 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and stamped skeletons all over it.  I then cut it down to 4-3/4" x 1-3/4" . Each layer is attach to each other using Snail Adhesive.  To finish the card, I stamped the greeting in Basic Black ink on Whisper White card stock and cut out with a matching die. I cut out a slighter larger image than the greeting with Basic Black card stock using the next larger die and attached both to the filigree frame I cut out using Blackberry Bliss card stock.

This card is going out to my sister-in-laws and friends today.

Enjoy the card, and again THANKS to the individual that created the original card.

Halloween Card

My best friend and her twin sister and I live across the country from each other and we keep in touch by sending cards we create to each other.

The following card was made using current card stock from Stampin' Up! and a new stamp set from Stampin' Up!'s 2019 Holiday Catalog -- Spooktacular Bash and the matching dies.  I did add a small piece of last year's Designer Series Paper under Dracula.  I add a strip of 1/4" orange and 1/8" black ribbon to finish the card.

My best friend should be receiving her card tomorrow.  Sure hope she likes it!

Have a great day!

Halloween

Halloween is right around the corner and I have been busy creating Halloween Cards for friends and family.

I made the following cards for my Granddaughters and they should have received them about now.  I used a pack of Halloween Designer Paper I purchased from Michael's a year or two ago.  I used card stock from Stampin' Up! for the base card and layers. Images are from the paper pack.

I made this card for my oldest granddaughter; and,

this card from my youngest granddaughter.

The last card I created was for my wonderful daughter and son-in-law.

I hope you have enjoyed these cards as much as I enjoyed creating them.

Let me know your thoughts and I'll be seeing you again soon.
